Welcoming message by Pyrros Dimas, 4 times Weightlifting Olympic Medalist

Dear friends,

It is a great honor for me, to be acclaimed as the ambassador of the 43^rd International Children's Games.

The International Children's Games is a very special event where around two thousand children will be participating in Athens. Their presence will give happiness, hope and energy to Athenian citizens. The unique experience of the games will offer a chance for the young athletes to meet people and create new friendships.

They are going to have the opportunity to witness how an athletic event can create bonds, inspire and motivate people. Considering the fact that we are living in times that loneliness threatens young people, the motto of the International Children's Games has become even more significant: "Together All Friends!"

The International Children's Games will teach teenage athletes that competitiveness is not what is important. In fact, children will be inspired not only to become better as persons but also to become better as future citizens of the world. People of different color, religion or origin will always remember their experiences of competing, laughing, crying, meeting people of various cultures that speak different languages in Athens; a city of a great historical background. They will return to their countries full of knowledge and emotions.

As a father of four, I can assure you that we can learn and be reminded of many things by children. Innocence, altruism and solidarity are important values that we cannot afford to loose. Children's happiness can provide a solution against everyday anxiety.

I am perfectly sure that the beautiful and luminous city of Athens is yet again ready to make a success out of such an important athletic and cultural event.
